Sport Psychology News:
Tennis umpires and linesmen have better eyesight than players
Psychology Press author George Mather has finally disproved John McEnroe's claims that the ball was in.
"Using evidence from the Association of Tennis Professionals, George Mather, of the University of Sussex, has concluded that while players and line judges can be prone to error when assessing where a ball has bounced, because of what he calls "inherent limitations of human perceptual vision", the officials are significantly more accurate.
Dr Mather conducted his research after the introduction in 2006 of the Hawk-Eye electronic line-calling system, which has revolutionised the sport."

New Sport Psychology Arena
Welcome to our new Sport Psychology arena.
We hope you find this arena very easy to navigate around, because we know that you want to find the information you're after quickly, whether it's the 'buy now' link for a particular book, the date & venue of a forthcoming conference, or the online version of a specific academic journal article.
Apart from a completely new visual design and layout, we've added a number of new features to address your changing demands and requirements.
We hope we've made this arena invaluable for you, and we'd encourage you to add this site to your favourites, post it to del.icio.us (if you're a del.icio.us user), blog about it (then let us know), or recommend it to your friends and colleagues.
Here's a very brief overview of some of the new features:
RSS Feeds of latest titles
We've created an RSS Feed of our newest Sport Psychology books so that you can subscribe to receive news of our latest titles. RSS feeds are an increasingly popular way to check for news and updates from all the websites you regularly visit without having to visit them all individually.
We've created a page to explain more about RSS, which will also help you to subscribe using a wide range of freely available RSS Feed Readers.
You can also use our RSS feed to display an automatically-updated list of our latest Sport Psychology titles on your blog or website (let us know if you do this because we'd be interested to see).
Conferences
We've updated our Sport Psychology Conferences listings with an interactive map (see screenshot, right), allowing you to see, at a glance, all of the events that are coming up near you.
You can zoom in for a closer look (close enough, in some cases, to get street directions!) and click on the map markers for conference details and a link to the conference's home page.
Journals
We've vastly increased the coverage of our academic journals on this arena, and linked them to our Online Journals website. This means that you're only a few clicks away from the latest academic journal articles.
Many universities and other institutions already subscribe to our journals, so you may already have immediate access to thousands of our online journal articles. If not then you can either choose to subscribe or, if it's more convenient for you, simply order an individual article.
Sport Psychology Blog Posts, Country-specific book listings, and more
There's a wealth of other new features, including the latest Blog Posts from around the world which have been tagged as being about Sport Psychology, and we've also made sure that all the books you see are available in your country by automatically identifying which country you're in (on the rare occasions when we might get it wrong you can manually override it on the User Preferences page).
We're very excited about the changes we've made to this arena, and as we mentioned earlier, we'll be updating all of our arenas over the coming months. But we don't want to rest on our laurels, so we'll be looking for new ways to improve the arenas and new features to offer you.
If you have any suggestions or comments then please don't hesitate to let us know.
